UPDATE: if you are tired of calling and you want to bypass the automated greeting when you call, just follow the steps provided on this post: how to talk to a person when you call the irs Hello everyone, as you know, every year as Americans, we have to pay our taxes at the beginning of the year. So I added the irs numbers here because i wanted to get the IRS phone number and it was hard to find the numbers for the irs. so i thout i should put their numbers for all the states here, if anyone asks where you can get the irs number, you can give them these numbers. be careful when you call them because its different when you call the IRS for business. if you have a business, you dont need a social security number, you need an EIN number which you have to get through the IRS. also you can use these numbers to get an application, is call them and ask them. for example, i lived in California and texas, so it will be different for you.. i hope i was able to help you in obtaining a lookup to obtain the internal revenue service numbers. many people use these numbers for finding the status of their refund. it has been my experience when i apply for a for a ei i dont know how do i get a toll free number because there were so many for different services. so i go this number for free when i called the irs and told them i want to know how to obtain a tax estate 800. just like you and me, i used this number as reference for my irs contacts. this year i had to pay taxes i did not get a refund which sucks because my employer change my w4 to non profit, but now i have corrected it. if you have a business or a company like an llc or corporation inc or a small business, you have to call a different number. you can use this number for like property taxes representative individual taxpayer identification sales federal school. sometimes they can help you with services like employer id. the information required to for them to give you, you will need your social security and depending on your service call, you will need a code registration for the telefile (aka efile) if you applied online on the internet through the IRS website. i have a fein so i didnt have to fill out a new form, but you will if you need a new number, tin or itin or whatever you you call it. since i live in California, all employers provides some information about your taxes, i even talked to my employer about my w9,w2,w4,ss4 forms when i was at work, so if you are calling regarding a work related question that involves your job, i would recommend that you call them from you work. otherwise, you will have to lookup your SSN support account and follow the instructions on the phone. they have an automated service which if you follow the instructions, it will give you the answer you are looking for. well, most of the times. not always. i can't believe tomorrow is the deadline, so i better send my tax refund this year early so i get my paycheck really quick. but today i have to call the IRS because i didnt get a w2 form from my employer so according to the instructions i have to call them before i send them my refund which i dont know why. hopefully everything goes well when i call them. What im thinking its going to happen is that they will say. ok sir send your refund form and thank you for notifying us of this. i am curious to know what they are going to say, and to be honest with you i am going to get a representative or agent who has been on the phone all day. it must be a pretty hard job to do, to talk to people on the phone all day answering their tax questions. my advice, is just be calm and understand that they do this everyday, have a little patience.. oh well its 651 am now, so im thinking they will open at 7am pacific time, so i have 9 minutes to wait. IMPORTANT!!IF YOU EVER RECEIVE A PHONE CALL FROM SOMEONE CLAIMING TO BE THE IRS OR ANYONE FROM THE GOVERNMENT, IT IS MOST LIKELY A SCAM. THE GOVERNMENT WILL ALWAYS SEND YOU A LETTER OVER THE MAIL. I received an automated call from 202-779-4536, it was left on my voicemail, indicating that I was being sued by the IRS and to call the above # immediately. I called and the man (Pakistani-accented) indicated that IRS had a lawsuit against me for monies owed. He claimed IRS sent letters twice - I got both dates, and I would have been home for both deliveries through his source: USPS. He said there was a "miscalculation" regarding an audit that was conducted on taxes filed between 2008 and 2012. I asked for Case #, and he replied, "The case number is DC1928." I thought it odd that it didn't start out differently or certainly was longer. He warned me not to be using my speaker phone (IRS DOES that as well, as a matter of privacy for you and your private matter with them, FYI). As I kept asking questions, he became more and more irritated and finally asked if I wanted to go to my local police to see about the warrant, and I said, yes, and he said that I could do so but I might be arrested. He also suggested that I get an attorney for this matter. I found info on-line, after the call, that this is a well-known SCAM/Phishing expedition. LynnSun Oct 18, 2015 I had Four messages on my answering machine stating that I was being sued by the IRS. They left two different numbers to call them back Those numbers were Two Zero Two -Eight Six Four -One One Two Two and Three Six Zero -Two Eight Two -Six Four Zero One .JRFri Oct 16, 2015 Just received a call supposedly from the IRS, telling me that they have a lawsuit against me for owing taxes. SJOTue Sep 01, 2015 All I want to do is ask a simple question...Does IRS charge $22.00 to send your tax refund to a debt you to the State of Oregon (back taxes)? Earlier this year I called IRS, not sure what #, and was able to talk to a REAL PERSON, but everyone I did talk to could not answer my question. The last few months I have called every # I can find for IRS, and I always get a automated recording, and most end up hanging up on my at the end. Why is no one answering the phone? WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is warning American taxpayers about a widespread phone scam. The callers fraudulently claim to be IRS agents and demand payment for fake tax liens. The scammers usually call from a cloned number with a District of Columbia area code. The number 202-609-7070has been frequent in complaints in the month of August. The phony agent, who usually has a heavy accent, will call or leave a voicemail saying the potential victim owes money to the IRS, and if it isn’t paid immediately, they will be arrested. The IRS says they have received 90,000 complaints to dateabout the scam, and about 1,000 people have lost an estimated $5 million from the fraud. The IRS: Never asks for credit card, debit card or prepaid card information over the telephone.Never insists that taxpayers use a specific payment method to pay tax obligationsNever requests immediate payment over the telephone and will not take enforcement action immediately following a phone conversation. Taxpayers usually receive prior notification of IRS enforcement action involving IRS tax liens or levies. If you get a call that you believe to be a part of this scam, the IRS urges you call 1-800-366-4484 to report the incident. Voice Over Internet ProtocolAKA VoIP, is a method by which voice and multimedia sessions take place over the Internet rather than through a traditional phone service. Users also refer to VoIP as Internet telephony, broadband telephony, or broadband phone service, a service that is not new, but has been gaining popularity. Unlike plain old telephone service (POTS), VoIP does not need a service plan or a static telephone number. Anyone can use the system for free, from anywhere in the world. Pros and Cons of VoIP There are several pros and cons to using a VoIP phone number. The pros include being able to choose your own phone number, with any area code. People use VoIP for many reasons. The pros can be positive or negative in that the caller’s identity is usually blocked or unavailable. Users may opt to be anonymous for various reasons including personal or professional privacy or for developing targeted marketing services. Cons are that some users choose to hide their identity to protect themselves when they are involved in illegal activity. People use VoIP even though it can only be used with an internet connection or a phone’s mobile hot spot. Hidden IdentityVoIP services only know what information you put in when you sign up, so it can be anonymous. The service asks for an email account, which can also be anonymous, so tracing the number may be almost impossible. Scammers use the system because it gives them cover from the police and prosecution reducing the risk of being caught. Locating the CallerYou can trace a phone number by doing a reverse phone number search to find if the number is traditional or Internet-based. You may be able to locate an IP address for the VoIP number but unless you are highly tech savvy, chances are you won’t be able to uncover who is using the number. However, law enforcement has tools which may be able to locate the origin of the calls. Google Voice is a popular VoIP service. While the service many be anonymous, Google collects and shares information with third parties that may help to track the caller. Google does not have a directory of its VoIP numbers, and such efforts would be pointless since the numbers can and do change all the time. You should use the following tips to track the number. Phone directories. You can use a reverse phone searchto find the number, even if it’s a VoIP number. If you think the number is fake, you can check online phone directoriesto see if it has been reported. You can search Facebook to see if the person has linked the number to their social media profile.Protecting YourselfIf you receive a call from a VoIP phone number, treat it as if it is fake. Never give out personal information to a stranger. You should report any suspicious activity to the police immediately. Posted in: Cell Phone, Tagged: Internet, online phone number, VoIP

My phone number is not listed anywhere to my knowledge. The conversation went like this: Hello? Hi this is John calling from "the American Police Officers Alliance". How are you? mmm I'm doing well. Hello? Yes. Can you hear me? Yes. It's the benefit drive done each year to support those who protect our nation's citizens. It's a 527-organization. (A 527-organization is a type of U.S. tax-exempt organization organized under Section 527 of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code). The goal is to fight for their right to ensure that police officers are receiving the tools and training they need to remain safe. We are calling the citizens in the area for the one time donation for the drive. We'll of course make sure that you get everything including the "thank you" letter showing you support the officers. The top sponsorships are $100, $50 or $35. I just need to know which one we can put you down for. (DO YOU FEEL THE PRESSURE FROM A "POLICE OFFICER"?) OK. I'm actually interested to participate in this one. No problem just keep us in mind for next time. Sure. Bye bye. Bye bye. ==================== They called from number 857-262-8018 but from other reports online I understand that they change their number often. The call went exactly as this, except I said, "not at this time, but maybe another" and it prompted me for a lesser amount instead. Having a random phone call is pretty rare for me so I'm already skeptical and on edge. So...I started to play around with it. I paused a few more times and almost exactly 1 second later it'd ask, "Hello", and then another second, "Are you still there?". Sometimes this was followed by 20+ seconds of pure silence if i didn't respond further. It was too consistent for my liking. I've made a few chat bots myself and I noticed how all phrasings of questions looked for a direct yes/no or a value. If they didn't receive one it'd have some sort of other response you can say following nearly anything. Very clever. Also a very scarily enlightening experience towards our future. When a human can be mapped onto a state diagram for our every response.. that's when they'll be passing turing tests I suppose? level 1pioman6 points · 1 year agoThese are actually “legit” organizations. As in legit in the eyes of the law but total scum as a charity. They are required to disclose the % of donations that actually goes to their cause. Ask them and be shocked at how terrible they are. Last one that called me donated 11% with 89% going to overhead!! Makes it much easier to tell them to eff off :-) level 1[deleted]6 points · 1 year agoI just got this call. It’s 100% prerecorded. I was caught off guard and thought it was legit, I responded “I’m, alright?” and they hung up instantly after that. But the line from “John” I heard matched every intonation. Looking forward to my confused “alright?” voice being used for credit card fraud! Ugh. Fuck this, I’m normally smart enough not to open my mouth. level 2bruce6561 point · 1 year ago· edited 1 year agoI just got this call too, and in asking it different questions, it would cycle through various pre-recorded clips, and eventually hung up. They list a phone number of (866) 873-1715 in the phone call. Calling this number you get a (very unprofessional) person claiming to be with an answering service located in Wisconsin. When asked about the organization and what they do, she responded, "They donate? To like .... police." Their websitelists another number, (703) 935-4791, which forwards to another number, and goes to voice mail. I can't make out all the digits, but number is (xxx) xx1-6086. Their address is listed as 1655 Fort Myer Dr Suite 700 Arlington, VA 22209, an office building listed as Rosslyn Center. Calling the number listed for Ste 700, we get Margaret who works at Regus, a company that rents 'virtual office space,' and forwards mail to their clients. Magaret seemed a little nonplussed I was asking about the American Police Officers Alliance, and referred me back to the website, saying she couldn't give out info on their clients. level 1[deleted]5 points · 1 year agoI get these calls from time to time, what I listen for it's the phrase, ”we wanted to thank you for your generous donation last year”. Which is complete BS. I've never donated to these groups. level 1dcostalis4 points · 1 year agoThey've been calling me for literally a decade under half a dozen different names. It's always John. It's always the same guy. Still can't tell if he was a real person or a recording designed to respond with "what was that?" when it hears a response. Doing this multiple times could rack up the bill, use skype and get the add-on of an "auto-dialer" to keep ringing them without the need for you to. here's their number (866) 873-1715 Details about website i digged upWebsite was registered on 2017-04-19: whois lookup Was not in the database of registered business with commonwealth of virginia state corporation commission business search link for scc My first reverse image searchraised some major flags, this has been stolen from http://www.azcentral.com. Exact same speel. He kept pressuring me to make a donation over the phone and I said no. When I asked him if they had a website he gave it to me, tried talking me into making another phone donation and then I put the hammer down that I wasn't making a donation over the phone. He then finally hung up. Needless to say, I'm not donating to this org. level 1neerlk3 points · 1 year agoYep, I got the same exact call just now from a different (but local) phone number. level 1amicustoast3 points · 1 year agoLiterally just hung up with this guy- such a scam. I asked "John" if there was a website associated with the charity that I could look into to assure this wasn't a scam. He said I could do a search for US Police Officers Alliance (he definitely said US not American, I guess they changed that detail to avoid being found out faster) and it would come up but what was interesting was when I asked if I'ld be able to donate through the website after checking it out, the guy stopped answering entirely. So yea, be careful people & always ask questions! Stay safe y'all. The number I received this call from was 2013541618 (201 is my area code as well, not sure if they're using a number generator to appear to be local perhaps). level 1[deleted]2 points · 1 year agoI get these calls from time to time, what I listen for it's the phrase, ”we wanted to thank you for your generous donation last year”. I can only assume it's a bit because i asked who it was and he goes "um yeah John Hansen". I ask who he's looking for and he repeats that phrase in the same exact cadence and was not answering my questions. I figured they were trying to get me to say "yes" at some point and use that like other scams. Didn't realize it was a legitimate organization but it was still weird that he wouldn't answer questions and replied the same thing in the same way. level 1RevDaniel2 points · 1 year ago· edited 1 year agoI just got spam called from these bastards, and immediately started looking up their info online. It's appears to be a step up in cleverness from the typical automated scam robot calls. I have a tendency to blurt out, "Are you a robot?" the moment I begin to sense a scam, and this place had a response in the can ready for that. "No, sir. Your'e talking to a live human... I'm just on a line connected to my computer, so it's harder to hear you." Pretty fucking sneaky. They also try to record you saying "yes" or "ok" for who knows what later types of scammyness. I just kept asking, "are you a robot" repeatedly, and it kept going on with it's spiel. Finally, I asked, "what town is this for?" and it replied, "I have this listed for Riverside in the state of California", and I began to laugh since I live in NJ. It kept going on with the spiel in a loop until I hung up. To give you an idea how tricky this one is, I happened to find THIS VIDEOsomeone made, and even they don't seem to fully realize they were duped into believing it was a real person, though they were at least smart enough to suspect something was afoul. Listen carefully to the call, and you'll all realize this is indeed a robot. EDIT- just realized OG made that youtube vid, didn't see the link. Yeah dude, that was a robot. level 2_youtubot_1 point · 1 year agoVideo linked by /u/RevDaniel: TitleChannelPublishedDurationLikesTotal ViewsUnsolicited call from John from "the American Police Officers Alliance"Mike VanDam2017-10-170:03:1012+ (100%)1,092UPDATE1: **If you are interested in giving your money to a... ^Info| /u/RevDaniel can ^delete| v2.0.0 level 1bethbucky2 points · 1 year agoI just got this call. John, same as everyone else. Stupidly I said I would donate $35 but only via mail, no info over the phone. "John" transferred me to a "verifier" who was a live person (female). As I started talking to her, I sat down at the computer to verify the legitimacy of the call. I was halfway through giving her my address, but then I realized what was happening and hung up. Super crazy. level 1Lord_Kano1 point · 1 year ago· edited 1 year agoReposting because my comment was auto-deleted. I have masked the phone number in this one: I received almost this exact same call just minutes ago. I decided to google for the organization and found this post. The call came from 610-XXX-XXXX level 1Unclevertitle1 point · 1 year agoJust had a call from them. Everything in the call seemed super off. The way how there would be suspiciously long pauses after nearly everything I said, including my first words on the line "Hello this is [My Name]" Followed by an "uh-huh" several times when I was talking but not in where you'd expect someone to say "uh-huh." It seemed like either a machine speaking, someone with English as a second language (but a perfectly American accent), or as if the call was suffering from major latency issues such as extreme long distance (which would be odd for an American organization calling a cellphone within the continental US). Add to that the fact that he repeatedly asked for how much I would be willing to donate despite the fact that I repeatedly said "I don't donate over the phone, I need more information, etc." Did a search for them immediately after and I'm glad I did. Marking that number as a Scam in my contacts (not that that ultimately matters, just feels better). level 1redditoruno1 point · 1 year agoGot this exact same call today. Just got this thing for the first time. Here's the website. https://americanpoliceofficersalliance.com/issues/No people listed which is suspicious. Makes me sad. My number is getting pimped out among scammers.
